Description

I'm very proud of this piece entitled: 'A_Birthday_Gift_for_Toeknee'. A few people have already commented, saying that it’s a bit of a dodgy composition. But I really don't care. I think it’s a gorgeous piece. Besides my only intention was to create a lovely compositional card for an exceptionally caring furry friend of mine's 21st Birthday!

Yes it’s true that I’m going through a little bit of a confusing stage at the moment in my life. Still I'm very happy with the way it turned out and I think I've really outdone myself. I've drawn many a celebration cards for numerous furs on Deviant Art before, but this one certainly takes the cake. “Excuse the pun.” The character interaction is beautiful and their eye contact is dazzling. This is the second time I've attempted to draw anthropomorphic creatures.

Yes I admit the physiological and anatomical proportions are a little off, but I think it’s a valiant attempt. I would greatly appreciate some constructive criticism. I really had a fun time sketching this and I can only hope Toekneebob likes it as much as I loved sketching it for him. Besides 21 only comes around once in a life time! Thus a 21st Birthday card with a difference is very appropriate. It’s a mild stone in one’s life!

My original idea was to have a background set in the Serengeti with lots of shrubbery and some Acacia trees in the distance. Just picture the scene of these two characters sitting under an Acacia tree with a beautiful sunny Serengeti backdrop, blue sky and white fluffy clouds. I rendered a realistic Serengeti landscape in Terragen©. Software that creates a visually pleasing and realistic virtual landscapes or environments!

Then I was going to create long Savannah grass land using an Adobe© Photoshop 7 grass plug-in and add some Umbrella trees I modeled in a 3D modeling program called Maxon© Cinema4D. Fortunately when I scanned the image into the computer I fiddled around with an old rustic paper setting on my scanner to create the effect of old coffee paper. Therefore I decided not to color it or place it on a busy background. “Some compositions look better if they are not digitally altered on the computer!”

I personally think this composition appears more life like than if it were digitally altered. By the way if any ones wondering what my character’s holding in his paw, well it’s a jeweled necklace. Very similar to the one worn by Toeknee in his Convention badge. All rights reserved to the retrospective artists and their characters.

Grrr LeoRa

May the fur be with you…Always.
